Test facilities SKG-IKOB - Smoke-resistance tests EN 1634-3

In today's building fire safety concept, it is essential to look beyond just the fire resistance of structures.

In a fire, smoke plays a major role in evacuation as it contains harmful contaminated air. The traditional approach of determining smoke-resistance through flame density is no longer adequate; now standard EN 1634-3 requires specific smoke-resistance tests.

SKG-IKOB has the necessary accreditations and offers this testing facility, resulting in growing demand from the industry. With the new regulations, the old 1.5x rule for determining smoke resistance is no longer realistic. The Building Code now introduces a method that measures the actual air leakage of structures, leading to classifications such as Sa and S200.

Marcel Boom of Kawneer Netherlands BV shares his positive experiences with SKG-IKOB. Through good cooperation and extensive test plans, the company is able to comply with the new European regulations. Recently, a test on a double door with top and side light took place and was completed successfully. The results are included in important reports, and thanks to the cooperation Kawneer expects to complete the process smoothly.
