Press Release: First SKG-IKOB KOMO certificate for hydrophobics

On June 19 last, Hendrik-Jan Verweij, General Manager at Remmers BV, received from Harm van Dartel, Certification Manager at SKG-IKOB Certification, the first komo certificate for hydrophobic products. This quality declaration indicates that the company and the products concerned meet the requirements of the Assessment Guideline BRL 1154.

BRL 1154 was drawn up together with the industry in order to formulate clear requirements for hydrophobics applied to a stony substrate. The requirements that are assessed for certification relate primarily to the performance of the product. Among other things, the products are evaluated for penetration depth, water absorption, water vapor permeability, resistance to weathering and UV, and density and pH. The substrate to which the product is applied may determine the performance of the product. Therefore, the substrate(s) to which the product is to be applied, such as brick, sand-lime brick or concrete block, are taken into account when reviewing and testing hydrophobic products.

The BRL 1154 also sets requirements for the quality system of the company producing the products. With this system, the company must monitor itself that the product properties do not change and that the quality of the product remains stable. Within the framework of certification, SKG-IKOB monitors this as an independent party. Remmers BV has recently demonstrated that it meets the requirements set by the BRL 1154 and is the first company to be allowed to market its products under KOMO.
