New test wall for post-insulation

In the SKG-IKOB laboratory, hard work is being done on the new test wall for post-insulation with mineral wool. The engineering phase has been completed and the pre-insulation wall is ready. In order to be able to test all the situations we encounter in practice, the dimensions are larger than those of the previous test wall.

For example, hole-filling elements have been installed that mimic frames of doors and frames in order to properly assess these connections as well.

Multiple drill holes are provided so that the fill can be tested with different drill patterns. The standard holes mimic a 22 mm drill diameter. Using adapters, this can be adjusted to 18 mm and to 14 mm. The cavity width is variably adjustable so that all common cavity widths can be simulated. The standard cavity width in the tests is expected to be 40 mm and 60 mm. The requirement is that the wall is filled homogeneously and that the "packing" of the mineral wool is correct. This is the weight of insulation material per volume (kg/m3).

The test wall is used to provide per-drill diameter admission for the companies that want to start processing mineral wool. It looks at the drilling pattern they put out, the degree of filling and how they handle the machine settings. In addition, the test wall will be used in the future to test new innovations. Also, the wall can serve to train professionals and conduct practical exams.

The entire test rig is expected to be completed in 8 weeks. The photo shows the "exterior cavity wall" of the test wall. At the back of the test wall, in order to mimic practice to the maximum extent, mortar beards and cavity anchors have been applied. at the front, plastic strips with brick pattern have been applied to create the most realistic drilling pattern possible. The thickness of the total "exterior cavity wall" is 100 mm.
