First VMS industry certificates awarded at Infratech
On Thursday, January 19, the first two industry certificates of the VMS were awarded at the Infratech in Rotterdam. The certificate matches the requirements of brl 9334 and is thus an alternative to the existing training requirements mentioned in the BRL. Craftsmen with years of experience thus do not have to follow costly training courses to meet the requirements for certification.
Joop Polfliet of the VMS presented the certificates to Hans - and Andre Boudewijn of AH bestratingen. Experienced and unqualified pavers have the opportunity to demonstrate their professionalism with the VMS Sector Certificate for Pavers. By means of a proficiency test, these pavers can show that they understand their trade and can carry out paving work independently. The industry certificate applies to paving companies, which are certified based on brl 9334 Streetwork, as proof that employees meet the training requirements.
The proficiency test is administered at the training institutes and consists of 12 components ranging from setting up traffic barriers and setting tires and gullies to paving and finishing paving. If the candidate demonstrates mastery of all components during the three-day practical assignment, he receives the VMS Sector Certificate in Street Construction. The practical assignment and assessment are based on proficiency comparable to Level 3. Therefore, the industry certificate provides an exemption for the regular training, provided the training is started within two years of obtaining the certificate.
The proficiency test consists of 12 items:
1. Set up traffic barriers
2. Set up and maintain work site
3. Securing cables and pipes
4. Excavate, backfill, raise and compact soil
5. Check foundation and make track
6. Set tires and gullies, install street potholes and manhole edges, street gutters
7. Paving/flattening
8. Finish paving
9. Remove and/or place street furniture
10. Repair/reset pavement, street pots, gutters, tires, gullies and manhole edges
11. Install temporary pavement
12. Bring work site into agreed upon condition
The VMS Industry Certificate in Street Construction is designed for experienced street workers and is not an alternative to regular training. This means that the candidate must be 25 years of age or older and be able to demonstrate at least five years of experience as a paver. While the course is an initiative of the VMS, it is also open to non-members of the VMS and self-employed workers. The company does not have to be an approved training company.
