Extension of scope of test results SKG-IKOB
New possibilities for testing in the context of UKCA marking
SKG-IKOB Certification has several test facilities for testing windows, doors and curtain walls for air and water tightness, strength and rigidity. The variety of test facilities ensures that testing can take place both on the building site, at the factory and in the SKG-IKOB laboratory. The number of different National, European and global test standards that can be tested against is very extensive.
Why trial?
By testing a product for wind pressure and water tightness, a company convinces its customers that the product complies with the most recent and relevant standards and guidelines. This test can be carried out to obtain a SKG-IKOB-KOMO attest or as an initial type test (ITT test) within the framework of CE marking. Tests are carried out in accordance with EN 1026, EN 1027, EN 12211 and EN 1873. The fixed test rig in Geldermalsen is also capable of testing curtain walls, element facades, non-load bearing facade parts or partitions between exterior and interior of a building according to test standards such as EN 12153, EN 12155 and EN 12179.
Three laboratories
In addition to the fixed test set-up in the SKG-IKOB laboratory, there are two mobile laboratories (trailer and measuring truck). With these, similar tests can be carried out on a construction or production site. The table below gives an overview of the specifications of three laboratories. On the test wall in the SKG-IKOB laboratory a facade element or curtain wall can be tested in a laboratory environment on the same criteria as on site. The test wall can deliver top and bottom pressures well above the norm values, up to 6000 Pa. This allows, in addition to norm tests, tests to be carried out at higher upper and lower pressures, for example to measure deformation at these extreme wind pressures.
On-site testing
For tests on the building site, the dimensions of the element are not important, since here a custom cabinet is built around the element with which the actual built-in situation is tested. With this test, a company can convince its customer of the realized quality, but also the causes of leaks can be visualized. You can also choose to carry out tests with the measuring trolley at your production site. The consequences of preparation or production errors become immediately visible and by involving your (production) employees in the testing and the results, quality awareness and end quality will increase.
UKCA mark
Due to BREXIT, from January 1, 2023 CE marking will no longer be accepted for products marketed in Britain. From this deadline, UKCA marking will be mandatory if windows, doors and curtain walls are marketed in Britain. For supply in the EU, CE marking is and will remain mandatory. To properly serve suppliers of windows, doors and curtain wall systems, SKG-IKOB has entered into a cooperation agreement with a Notified Body based in the UK. This Notified Body is accredited to perform various ITT tests in the context of UKCA marking and aims to further expand the scope. ITT test results from SKG-IKOB are recognized by this Notified Body and can therefore be used to substantiate performance in the context of UKCA marking.
Independent
SKG-IKOB carries out these tests as an accredited test laboratory and Notified Body under the independent supervision of the Accreditation Council, which guarantees and safeguards independence and impartiality for the various tests. Through continuous development, SKG-IKOB manages to stay at the top of testing institutes. SKG-IKOB has more than 50 years of experience as an inspection institute and test laboratory for building and safety products. Established by the industry itself to ensure the performance and safety of products and services for the construction and real estate sector in a sustainable, independent and impartial manner.
