SKG-IKOB has new test rig for testing lintels for masonry work

SKG-IKOB Certificatie has recently acquired a new set-up in the laboratory for testing lintels. With this setup, lintels with lengths up to 4.5 meters span can be tested for bending strength and shear strength.

Lintels made of steel, concrete and aerated concrete
There are still examples in the market of declarations of performance at CE marking that market parties provide lintels made of metal, concrete or aerated concrete with CE marking on the basis of the harmonized product standard NEN-EN 1090 (steel), NEN-EN 13225 (concrete) or NEN-EN 12602 (aerated concrete). Lintels up to a length of 4.5 meters fall explicitly within the scope of NEN-EN 845-2. Market parties who have filled in the CE marking for lintels differently than using NEN-EN 845-2 are actually in violation of European regulations.

SKG-IKOB designated as Notified Body
SKG-IKOB is a Notified Body designated by the Dutch government to test and certify a wide variety of building products. The laboratory in Geldermalsen is accredited according to ISO 17025 to test all types of lintels falling within the scope of NEN-EN 845-2 under accreditation. The testing standard designated from the product standard for lintels NEN-EN 845-2 is NEN-EN 846-9.

NEN-EN 845-2 contains the provisions relating to CE marking for masonry lintels. For NEN-EN 845-2 there is confusion because no material specific properties are included, only functional properties are named. As a result, several types of lintels of different material construction must be CE marked according to this product standard. Lintels made of steel, concrete, aerated concrete and masonry stone (stalton lintels) all fall within the scope of NEN-EN 845-2.
