Press Release: Certification of sealing materials for airtight construction possible
Sealing products used for airtight construction can from now on be SKG-IKOB KOMO certified. This is possible on the basis of the BRL 2804-1 that went into effect at the end of last year. This gives contractors and clients the certainty that the chosen products are suitable for their application.
As of November 15, 2016, the "Assessment Guideline 2804-1 for the Certification of Sealing Products for Airtight Construction" came into effect, which helps designers, contractors and clients make the right choice in this regard. The requirements of the BRL 2804-1 not only include requirements relating to the airtightness of the material, but also look at the long-term performance of the product. For example, the performance of products is assessed that relate to movements in a building due to expansion and contraction of the construction (parts). In addition, the influence of moisture and temperature changes on the product, water vapor permeability and possible degradation of the material by other materials are examined. SKG-IKOB Certification tests the products on the basis of these requirements and issues a SKG-IKOB KOMO product certificate in the event of a positive assessment.
Material independent
The BRL 2804-1 is not tied to a material type. Various materials can be chosen when realizing airtight seals. For example, there are tapes, belts, lubricating or sprayable sealing products or combinations thereof on the market. In determining the requirements, the main consideration was the application for which the product is being marketed. This distinguishes between joint overlapping, joint filling seals and seals for penetrations or wall boxes. Any new applications can also be assessed on the basis of this assessment guideline. Independent of the material and the solution a producer offers for the application, SKG-IKOB assesses the products for comparable properties.
Process Certification
In addition to choosing suitable sealing materials, it is important that these are also applied correctly in practice. Reason enough for SKG-IKOB to develop Assessment Guideline 2804-2 for the realization process on the basis of which application companies can qualify for the SKG-IKOB komo process certificate. This guarantees even greater certainty that the ultimate performance of the building in terms of airtightness meets the requirements set for it.
