Lars van Engelen talks about his experience with the KOMO process certificate
Lars van Engelen of Van Engelen Metselwerken from Gilze talks about his experience with the KOMO certificate. His initial introduction is clear: "The guys pay better attention to quality because of the unannounced inspections."
Van Engelen Metselwerken has been certified for a year now and has 30 men on the job. Lars: "I notice that the bricklayers are adhering better to the standards. Before, the contractor's foreman indicated where the open butt joints should be. Now my masons indicate that themselves and they know how many cavity anchors they should use and what the cavity width should be. Before, they knew that too. I just feel that they are more attentive to it now. Because a nice report with photos is made of the inspections, I can see for myself what is happening on the building. Now things stand out more that weren't noticed before, for example the proper scratching out of the masonry. The inspectors also give good tips."
The admission was pleasing to Lars van Engelen. "We first ran completely according to the requirements of the BRL for a few months. Then the admission went very smoothly. I think, if you want, the admission can be done within three weeks. SKG-IKOB responds very quickly. I didn't have that much trepidation about it. And you don't have to be. Our clients respond very positively. Many contractors ask for certificates. With the KOMO certificate, they see that we are serious. It has put a positive spin on the collaboration. The regular contractors especially like the start-work discussion. It ensures that the construction goes smoothly and they see that the work is being thought through. I'm thinking about having SKG-IKOB take care of my VCA and ISO as well."
