Effective date of coexistence postponed for NEN-EN 16034 - product standard for fire and smoke resistant windows and doors

As previously communicated, the publication in the Official Journal of the European Union (OJEU C226/24 dated 10-07-2015) formally declared EN 16034:2014 in force.

According to this publication, the transition period would be 3 years with an effective date of 01-12-2015 under the condition that a better alignment has been achieved by this date between EN 16034 and other product standards such as for windows and doors without fire and smoke-resistance properties (EN 14351-1), for garage doors and gates (EN 13241) and for automatic doors (EN 16361). Since this alignment was not achieved in time, the effective date of the coexistence period has been postponed until mid-2016 at the earliest.

This means that probably only from mid 2019 all fire-resistant windows and doors falling within the scope of EN 16034 that are placed on the market will have to be compulsorily CE marked and provided with a declaration of performance (DoP). If the transition period will start in mid-2016, this will be possible on a voluntary basis from then on.

Certification

Before manufacturers are authorized to apply CE marking and issue a declaration of performance (DoP), these companies must demonstrate compliance with the requirements set out in EN 16034. This must be demonstrated by means of a Certificate of constancy of performance issued by a Notified Body such as SKG-IKOB Certification.

SKG-IKOB will communicate about a meeting in the fall of 2015 to inform you about the developments and the latest state of affairs.
