Earthquakes were until recently a phenomenon that was not considered in the Netherlands. Because of the earthquakes in Groningen caused by gas extraction, this need is now there. To determine whether the masonry in Groningen can handle this new load, a research project was initiated.
At TU Delft, in cooperation with ARUP, EU Centre and TU Eindhoven, many tests were done to validate and improve the computational models. The presentation showed the research program and results from the first year of research. A research program in which the link between material and construction is essential.
