Green power and iconic charging at SKG-IKOB
On the roof of SKG-IKOB's office and laboratory, 436 solar panels were installed this spring. With an expected annual yield of 126,500 kWh, the panels are going to provide much of the energy needed.
Green power for our people's work as well as for cars! At our premises there are 6 iconic ANWB poles that have been given a second life as charging stations. With the panels and the charging stations we are taking a big step towards achieving our sustainability goals.
The green power comes from the more than 700 m2 of solar panels that were installed on the roof of our company building this spring. A total of 436 units of 335 Wp with a total output of more than 140,000 Wp. An annual yield of 126,500 kWh is expected. The solar panels and the charging stations are an own investment.
Contributing to sustainable mobility
Through solar panels, we are already generating most of our energy needs. The next step is the greater contribution to sustainable mobility. More and more SKG-IKOB employees are driving electric - already 10! - , also customers and other visitors come to Geldermalsen in an electric car. At our premises there was already capacity to charge cars. In September, the number of charging poles was increased to six; three in front of the building and three on the side. Each pole has two connections; a total of 12 charging stations are available. The charging station features the latest charging technology. It features dynamic power distribution between multiple charging stations. Cars can be charged with up to 22kW, which is also much more than the old charging stations could handle.
Second life for iconic talking post
For several years now, ANWB talking poles have not been seen along national highways. They have not gone to the scrap heap, but have been given a second life. Six of them now stand as car charging poles near us in Geldermalsen, in the same signal yellow color as those of the ANWB. They have stood alongside the road for some 20 years and have been damaged by use and weathering. They have been cleaned, damages have been touched up and they have been repainted. The car charging poles look like new, but have the visible signs of use that their history shows. With the new function for electric charging, they have regained new value.
