CSC gold for Betonmortelcentrale Gorkum
SKG-IKOB awarded CSC gold to Jos van der Velden, director of Betonmortelcentrale Gorkum, on May 24. The CSC (Concrete Sustainability Council) certificate is a way for producers to prove that concrete products, concrete mortar and raw materials for concrete are produced in a sustainable and responsible manner.
Paul Ewald of CSC Netherlands said, "Betonmortelcentrale Gorkum receives a gold certificate because the plant meets all the stringent requirements in the areas of responsible sourcing of materials & raw materials, environmental management & reduction of environmental impact, reuse, integrity and safety & working conditions." Betonmortelcentrale Gorkum scores high on operations and the use of CSC certified cement. "This indicates that it consciously engages in sustainable operations and implements them with various actions in the supply chain."

Ton van Beek, Technical Manager at SKG-IKOB: "Implementing a new certification scheme for future certificate holders is always a bit of a puzzle. But we notice that the companies are enthusiastic and get thinking. They already do a lot in the field of sustainable business and are not always aware of it. Recording in the CSC system also generates ideas for improvements. Some are implemented immediately, while others appear in policy plans for the near future. The CSC certification process gives a fresh look at business operations. That's how it was at Betonmortelcentrale Gorkum."

The certificate offers the buyer assurance about the responsible origin of the raw materials used, an optimal production process and recyclability. For the producer, it is an incentive to continue to innovate and be actively involved in product development.
